A Solution to Energy Poverty. How Local Governments and Support Institutions Can Assist the Most Vulnerable – Webinar Invitation!
Energy poverty is a real problem affecting thousands of families in Poland – a problem that directly impacts air quality in our communities. How can it be effectively addressed? Proven, local solutions implemented by local governments and Social Welfare Centers may provide the answer. On June 17, during a free webinar organized by the Polish Smog Alert, participants will have the opportunity to learn about best practices and concrete examples of action.
During the meeting, two complementary approaches to addressing energy poverty will be presented. Sabina Paciorek from the Municipality and City Office in Skawina will discuss local experiences in implementing solutions at the intersection of energy and social policy. Her presentation will focus on specific measures that have delivered tangible results, as well as the barriers encountered during implementation.
Stanisław Myjak from the Municipal Social Welfare Centre (GOPS) in Zabierzów will, in turn, present in detail the structure of a local support programme aimed at low-income residents. His presentation will include, among others, data on the situation in the municipality and heating sources, information on the scale of completed boiler replacements, and the development of the support programme in the coming years.
The webinar will provide an opportunity to explore the practices of two municipalities that are effectively addressing the challenges of energy poverty. Both presentations will be complemented by a short talk by Kamila Gawrońska-Dickson from the Polish Smog Alert, dedicated to a new publication entitled “Good Anti-smog Practices – A Handbook for Local Governments”, one chapter of which focuses on energy poverty.
