Study visit of the Air Protection Group in Denmark – Partnership for Clean Air!

From 10 to 13 September, members of the Air Protection Group took part in a study visit to Denmark, organised as part of the ‘Partnership: Environment for Development’ project. The aim of this trip was to establish cooperation and exchange knowledge and experience with Danish institutions responsible for environmental protection, particularly in the field of air protection and the reduction of low emissions. The visit also enabled participants to develop their competences and broaden their knowledge of implementing innovative environmental solutions.

Energy transformation and innovative construction

On 11 September, the delegation visited the Danish Energy Agency, where participants learned about the energy transition process in Denmark and the mechanisms currently in place to support the development of the district heating system. Danish measures to reduce pollution from transport were discussed, including the introduction of clean transport zones in cities and increasing the availability of low-carbon modes of transport.

The second item was a visit to the Living Places organisation, which allowed participants to learn about innovative low-carbon building projects. As part of the visit, a workshop was held on the vision and direction of the building transformation towards more healthy and low-carbon buildings.

Copenhagen’s adaptation to climate change

The delegation spent the next day, 12 September, at Copenhagen City Hall. There, participants learned about the city’s climate change adaptation plan, which includes producing energy from waste, developing wind farms and increasing the use of photovoltaic panels. Of particular interest was the plan to replace public transport with electric vehicles and to promote cycling, which is extremely popular in Copenhagen.

The delegation also visited the State of Green organisation, where Gry Klitmose Holm discussed efforts to promote green technology and energy efficiency. The workshop that followed the presentation focused on cooperation between the private sector and government in the field of green transformation.

The day ended with a visit to the Middlegrunden wind farm, which has become a shining example of Denmark’s renewable energy efforts.

Innovative technologies in the DOLL Living Lab

On the last day of the visit, the group visited the DOLL Living Lab, a technology park that tests innovative solutions in the field of environmental protection and energy efficiency. The delegation had the opportunity to learn about technologies related to urban traffic management, aimed at reducing congestion and improving conditions for cyclists. Modern technologies for reducing light pollution, which is important for the protection of urban ecosystems, were also presented.

Conclusions of the visit

The study visit to Denmark was a valuable experience for the participants, who had the opportunity to learn about modern solutions applied in this country in the field of air protection. Co-operation with Danish experts and observation of effective solutions, which function on other markets of the European Union, is an important step towards improvement of air quality in Poland. The knowledge gained during the visit, both legislative and technological, will contribute to an innovative approach in the implementation of EU regulations on national grounds.

Further international cooperation and the implementation of best practice from Denmark can make a significant contribution to the success of Polish environmental and climate protection efforts, as well as improving the quality of life of the population through more effective air protection measures.
