Residents of the Malopolska Region are replacing old boilers: nearly 6,000 replacements in the first half of 2026.

The replacement of outdated heat sources is underway in the Malopolska Region. The first half of 2026 saw thousands of further boiler replacements, but an important task still lies ahead for residents of the region. By the end of the year, class 3 and 4 boilers must be replaced.

Boilers disappearing from homes across the Malopolska Region

From January to June, residents of the Malopolska Region replaced 5,989 outdated boilers. Among the new heat sources, gas boilers and biomass-fuelled devices were the most frequently chosen.

The highest number of heat sources were replaced in the following municipalities:

  • Brzesko – 307 boilers
  • Stary Sącz – 134 boilers
  • Gorlice (rural municipality) – 131 boilers
  • Dąbrowa Tarnowska – 130 boilers
  • Nowy Sącz – 129 boilers
  • Czernichów – 117 boilers

The “Clean Air” Programme continues to offer financial support

In the first half of 2026, residents of the Malopolska Region submitted 2,332 applications to the “Clean Air” Programme. The applications covered both the replacement of inefficient heat sources and the thermal modernisation of buildings, such as insulating walls, replacing windows or upgrading heating systems.

This is fewer than in previous years. However, the programme remains an important source of funding for replacing heat sources and improving the energy efficiency of buildings.

For people planning to modernise their heating systems, this means an opportunity to reduce the cost of the investment.

How much is left to replace?

According to data from the General Office of Building Control (GUNB), which administers the Central Register of Building Emissions, as of 19 September 2026, there are in the Malopolska Region:

  • more than 156,500 single-family buildings with only non-classified solid-fuel central heating sources
  • nearly 318,000 single-family buildings with only solid-fuel central heating sources
  • more than 240,000 single-family buildings with only solid-fuel central heating sources below class 5
  • more than 224,000 single-family buildings with only low-emission central heating sources (zero-emission, gas or oil sources)
  • more than 113,000 single-family buildings with both solid-fuel and low-emission/zero-emission sources
  • more than 83,000 single-family buildings with only a class 3 or 4 boiler

It should be noted, however, that despite being systematically updated, GUNB data do not always fully reflect the current situation. One of the reasons is that some residents do not update the relevant information in the system after replacing their heat source.

Next steps for residents of the Malopolska Region

The first half of the year shows that the replacement of old heat sources in the Malopolska Region continues to deliver results. More and more households are using modern and more efficient heating systems, which is another step towards improving air quality.

Now it is time to focus on those who still use old boilers. Owners of class 3 and 4 devices have until the end of 2026 to replace them. Action should not be postponed until the final stage.

It is worth checking the available funding options now and starting the modernisation process. Every replacement means cleaner air, more efficient heating and health benefits for residents of the Malopolska Region.
