Summary of LIFE Malopolska – January 2023

Main events

  • On 10 January a representative of the Competence Centre participated in a meeting concerning the scope of the environmental inspection form, which is currently being designed within the ZONE system.
  • On 18 January a meeting with representatives of the European Commission was held. Its purpose was to share experience of the Małopolska region with the problem of energy poverty. It was attended by the management of the Department of the Environment and representatives of the Competence Centre.
  • On 9 January a meeting took place, which was attended by representatives of the Department of the Environment of the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region, two Eco-managers of the LIFE IP Małopolska project, and representatives of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic. The goal of the meeting was to exchange information and to share experience on the work of Eco-managers employed at the LIFE Project, as well as: undertaking inspections of the burning of fuels in residents’ households, carrying out surveys with a thermal camera and executing energy audits.
  • On 31 January in the Polish Aviation Museum a workshop meeting was held for the LIFE projects of Małopolska. The training was attended by more than 80 people, mainly county advisers on climate an energy and Eco-managers from Małopolska municipalities.
  • Eco-managers distributed a total of more than 19 thousand informational and educational materials and gave over 12 thousand pieces of advice to residents of Małopolska.

C.1. Eco-managers

Advice and help for residents

In January Eco-managers working on the LIFE program provided the following counselling assistance to the residents of Małopolska:

  • 5,364 people received in the office
  • 5,501 by telephone
  • 810 in writing or by e-mail
  • 834 during on-site visits

834 inspections of residents’ households regarding waste incineration were undertaken. In 27 cases, violations of regulations were found.

Surveys from residents and funding applications

Eco-managers were involved in collecting applications for funding from residents. In January 2023:

  • 335 applications were collected from residents interested in benefiting from funding for heat source replacement.

Eco-managers entered or updated data on 6,694 properties in the Central Energy Efficiency and Building Heating Records (CEEB).

,,Eco-intervention” application

In January, 546 reports were accepted. The application is available at https://ekomalopolska.pl/app/ekointerwencja/index.html.

Specifically there were:

  • 367 air pollution reports,
  • 132 illegal waste disposal reports,
  • 28 were related to sewage and wastewater discharges,
  • 19 were classified as other types of reports.

The Competence Centre responded to more than 150 inquiries directed to the UMWM in the form of e-mails and 185 telephone inquiries.

Consultations regarding the environmental inspection form

On 18 January representatives of the Competence Centre participated in the webinar „Taking the burn out of heating for low-income households”.

Workshop meeting for the LIFE projects of Małopolska

On 31 January in the Polish Aviation Museum a workshop meeting was held for the LIFE projects of Małopolska. The training was attended by more than 80 people, mainly county advisers on climate an energy and Eco-managers from Małopolska municipalities. The main subject of the meeting, which was opened by the Deputy Director of the Department of Environment of the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region Piotr Łyczko, was cooperation during the II Małopolska Days for Climate. The participants listened to two interesting lectures. Aleksandra Jucha – the expert on social media, introduced the secrets of effective communication in social media. Marcin Popkiewicz, a science populariser specializing in climatology, energetics and megatrend analysis, spoke about shared causes and solutions for both the problem of air pollution and climate change.

Educational materials on air protection

Eco-managers in municipalities:

  • distributed 16,429 flyers and brochures and 447 posters,
  • prepared and distributed 2,879 other educational and promotional materials (leaflets related to the Clean Air Programme, promotional materials, board games and school materials for children).

Meetings & Events

Eco-managers organized meetings and events:

  • 3 competitions for children and youth with 56 participants,
  • 9 school and kindergarten meetings attended by 410 people,
  • 91 meetings with residents attended by 508 people,
  • 31 meetings with local leaders, totalling 319 people.
  • 9 other air protection events with 5,441 attendees.

Use of media

Eco-managers in municipalities prepared:

  • 19 articles in the press,
  • 67 articles and posts online and in social media,
  • 28 times other media were used

and participated in media releases related to the project:

  • 2 radio or TV broadcasts.

E.3. Networking with other projects

On 9 January a meeting took place, which was attended by representatives of the Department of the Environment of the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region, two Eco-managers of the LIFE IP Małopolska project, and representatives of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic.
