European funds for the environment
More than 300 local government officials, representatives of Małopolska municipalities and districts, took part in two conferences devoted to EU support for the implementation of environmental projects, held on 9 September in Krakow and 11 September in Nowy Sącz.
One of the main objectives of the European Funds is to support environmental protection. This is being implemented as part of national and regional programmes in the next financial perspectives. Among other things, we discussed this with local government officials in Kraków and Nowy Sącz.

New perspectives for support
Among other things, the meetings discussed current and planned calls for proposals for local government units in the area of environmental protection from the European Funds for Małopolska 2021-2027 programme (European Funds for Małopolska region 2021- 2027), the National Reconstruction Plan and the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-2027.
Measure 2.5. of the European Funds for Małopolska – Implementation of the Air Protection Programme
During the meeting, practical aspects of the implementation of European Funds projects for Małopolska concerning the functioning of eco-managers in municipalities and support for municipal and inter-municipal guards in controlling compliance with environmental regulations were presented.
Paweł Knapczyk, Director of the Department of European Funds, provided information on the funding that has been granted and the funds that will be available in future calls. The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss technical issues related to calls for proposals. The lump-sum formula for projects, payment schedules and payment applications were discussed. All questions and uncertainties were answered by Justyna Dymek-Rypińska, Deputy Director of the Department of European Funds.
An important point in the meeting was a presentation by Tomasz Pietrusiak, Deputy Director of the Department of the Environment, on the project Support for the energy transformation of municipalities in the Małopolska Region. Under the project, municipalities will be able to count on assistance in implementing measures to improve air quality, increase energy efficiency and develop renewable energy sources. A timetable for the project was presented, setting out the key stages for the coming years. It was emphasised that the project will be implemented in cooperation with local government units, which will allow the measures to be better tailored to local needs.
