On March 6, 2019 at the Gen. Emil Fieldorf “Nil” Home Army Museum in Krakow an information meeting was held about the ELENA European project – an instrument to support the implementation of investments in the area of energy efficiency. There were more than 120 participants – representatives of municipalities, regions and Local Action Groups.

The meeting was started by the Deputy Director of the Environment Department, Tomasz Pietrusiak, who presented the scope of the duties of Eco-managers employed in the 55 municipalities that are partners of the “Implementation of Air Quality Plan for Małopolska Region – Malopolska in a Healthy Environment” LIFE Integrated Project. He also presented the financial and social effects of their previous work – the funds obtained for the implementation of investments and informational and educational activities carried out among residents.

The second part of the meeting involved Andreas Piontek (an Energy Expert of the European Investment Bank) discussing the possibilities of obtaining funding from the ELENA (European Local Energy Assistance) instrument for the employment of Eco-managers / energy advisers. The employees employed thanks to the co-financing can implement investments in the residential sector in municipalities (including replacements of heating sources, thermo-modernization of buildings) and the transport sector. After the speeches, there was time for discussion and analysis of specific project fiches prepared by the participants.

The effects of the work of the Eco-managers operating in the Malopolska Region showed the employment of persons responsible for the implementation of air quality improvement strategies at the local level is a great benefit for the municipality. The ELENA project is an opportunity to extend the network of Eco-managers and efficiently acquire funds for investments and the implementation of them.

The meeting was organized as part of the “Implementation of Air Quality Plan for Małopolska Region – Malopolska in a Healthy Atmosphere” LIFE integrated project.
