Next meeting of the air protection working group ‘Partnership: Environment for Development’
On 16 October, an online meeting of the air protection working group of the ‘Partnership: Environment for Development’ project took place. The topic of the meeting was information on air quality in Poland.
The meeting, organised by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, was attended by, among others, representatives of the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolskie and Mazowieckie Voivodeships, the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and the Scientific and Academic Computer Network – National Research Institute (NASK), NGOs and other entities. After the presentations, there was an opportunity to take part in a discussion, during which participants exchanged experiences and ideas for further activities.
Changes to grant programmes
The Ministry of Climate and Environment has announced that intensive modernisation work is underway on the government’s Clean Air Programme. The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management is currently consulting on proposals for improvements to make the programme work even more effectively.
New air directive AAQD
One of the additional topics of the meeting was the revision of the Air Quality Directive (AAQD), approved by the Council of the European Union on 14 October. The new directive provides for ambitious targets – including a 50% reduction in air pollution levels. Poland, like other EU Member States, will have two years to implement the legislation at national level after its official publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
The next meeting of the working group will be entirely devoted to this new AAQD, which is an important step in the fight against air pollution in Europe.
