LIFE-IP project Małopolska in a healthy atmosphere an example of good administration in the EU
The European Union has launched a campaign to promote examples of good administration. This is because it is well known that effective governance can contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens. One of the activities highlighted in this campaign is the LIFE-IP Malopolska in a healthy atmosphere project, which is an excellent example of successful cooperation and effective action for the environment.
Excellence in cooperation
The LIFE-IP Malopolska in a Healthy Atmosphere project aims to support the implementation of the Air Protection Programme, which brings tangible benefits to 3.4 million inhabitants of our region. Thanks to cooperation with various institutions and raising funds, the project has contributed to a significant improvement in air quality. Its effects have a direct impact on the health and quality of life of the inhabitants.
In 2017, the LIFE-IP Malopolska in a Healthy Atmosphere project won the European Ombudsman Award in the Excellence in Collaboration category (eng. Excellence in Collaboration). The prize is awarded every two years to recognise the exceptional work done by the EU administration. The organisers commended the project for successfully combining the strengths of the European Commission, the European Climate Infrastructure and Environment Agency (CINEA), regional authorities and civil society in the Małopolska region.
Information campaign
To raise awareness of the successes of the award-winning projects, the European Union organised a special promotional campaign this year. The campaign included an information spot on the LIFE project. In it, Maja Mikosińska of CINEA and Wilhelmus (Guido) de Wilt of the European Commission explain how the project has affected the lives of the people of Małopolska, and how it has inspired other regions to take similar action. The spot is available online and can be viewed, among others, on the European Ombudsman’s website.
At the same time, promotion of the project took place on social media:
- Monday 27 May: Platform X (formerly Twitter)
- Tuesday 28 May: Instagram and LinkedIn
The campaign is a coordinated effort between the European Ombudsman’s communications team and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment.
Importance of good administration
The European Union’s campaign to promote examples of good administration highlights the importance of projects such as LIFE-IP Malopolska in a healthy atmosphere. Through such initiatives, supported by effective cooperation and proper funding, tangible benefits for citizens and the environment can be achieved. This project is not only proof of the effectiveness of EU administration, but also an inspiration for other regions to take action to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants.
More information about the campaign and the project can be found on the European Ombudsman’s website.
