Summary of LIFE Malopolska – September 2024!

The competence centre coordinates activities to strengthen the implementation of the Air Protection Programme. It provides continuous support and training for eco-managers in all relevant fields. The centre also develops tools to support the work of the eco-managers.

Highlights:

  • The Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region collected information from Małopolska municipalities regarding boiler replacements in the first half of 2024. In Małopolska, 5 172 off-class boilers were replaced. The largest number of boilers was removed in the municipalities of: Nowy Targ – rural area (108 boilers), Koniusza (105 boilers), Łukowica (103 applications), Mszana Dolna – rural area (95 boilers), Lisia Góra (89 boilers), Nowy Wiśnicz (87 boilers) and Krzeszowice (85 boilers). There is no sign of waning interest in the Clean Air Programme – the people of Małopolska are very keen to reach for funds from this programme to replace boilers and carry out thermal modernisation of their homes. Data from the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Kraków indicate that 17 683 applications were submitted between January and the end of June 2024.
  • On 4 September, the 11th meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the European Funds for Małopolska 2021-2027 programme was held at the Małopolska Science Centre Cogiteon in Kraków. The aim of this measure is to assist local authorities in their energy transformation, as well as to support initiatives aimed at reducing air pollutant emissions.
  • More than 300 local government officials, representatives of Małopolska municipalities and districts, took part in two conferences devoted to EU support for the implementation of environmental projects, held on 9 September in Kraków and 11 September in Nowy Sącz. During the meeting, practical aspects of the implementation of European Funds projects for Małopolska concerning the functioning of eco-managers in municipalities and support for municipal and inter-municipal guards in controlling compliance with environmental regulations were presented.
  • On 25 and 26 September 2024, the second edition of the international conference ‘Moving towards clean air for Europe – Second International Conference on Air Pollution’ organised by HungAIRy LIFE took place. The event brought together specialists, decision-makers and representatives of environmental projects from many European countries (including Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy and Slovakia) to discuss strategies, technologies and programmes aimed at improving air quality on our continent. Among the projects presented at the conference, the LIFE project implemented in Małopolska could not be missing. Mr Tomasz Pietrusiak, Deputy Director of the Environmental Department of the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region, presented the effects of the LIFE IP project ‘Implementation of the Air Protection Programme for the Małopolska Region – Malopolska in a healthy atmosphere’.
  • The next edition of European Mobility Week was celebrated from 16 to 22 September 2024. The campaign was conceived by the European Commission. The campaign aims to raise awareness of sustainable mobility, air protection and the development of pro-ecological habits. As every year, Małopolska municipalities joined the European Mobility Week celebrations in large numbers. Numerous competitions and workshops were organised in many municipalities.
