Summary of LIFE Malopolska – November 2022

Main events

  • On 4 November the third edition of postgraduate studies in air protection and energetics was inaugurated. Over 30 workers from 28 municipalities in Małopolska began their studies.
  • On 9 November a meeting of the steering commitee of the project „Poland’s Way to Clean Air” was held. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Competence Centre.
  • On 22 November a workshop meeting was held concerning the mock-ups of the financial module being designed within the ZONE system. The project is being coordinated by the General Office of Construction Control (GUNB).
  • On 25 November representatives of the LIFE IP Małopolska in healthy atmoshpere integrated project and LIFE IP EKOMAŁOPOLSKA for Climate and Energy project represented the region at the Air Quality Conference in Prague. The workshops were dedicated to challenges concerning air protection in Europe.
  • On 30 November Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Tomasz Pietrusiak represented the LIFE project at a virtual round table meeting on air quality in Sarajevo.
  • Eco-managers distributed a total of more than 21 thousand informational and educational materials and gave over 22 thousand pieces of advice to residents of Małopolska.

Advice and help for residents

In November Eco-managers working on the LIFE program provided the following counseling assistance to the residents of Małopolska:

  • 10,978 people received in the office
  • 9,479 by telephone
  • 2,011 in writing or by e-mail
  • 492 during on-site visits

1,165 inspections of residents’ households regarding waste incineration were undertaken. In 29 cases, violations of regulations were found.

Surveys from residents and grant applications

Eco-managers were involved in collecting applications for funding from residents. In November 2022:

  • 1,001 applications were collected from residents interested in benefiting from funding for heat source replacement.

Eco-managers entered or updated data on 18,074 properties in the Central Energy Efficiency and Building Heating Records (CEEB).

,,Eco-intervention” application

In November, 399 reports were accepted. The application is available at https://ekomalopolska.pl/app/ekointerwencja/index.html.

Specifically there were:

  • 315 air pollution reports,
  • 42 illegal waste disposal reports,
  • 33 were related to sewage and wastewater discharges,
  • 9 were classified as other types of reports,

The Competence Centre responded to more than 180 inquiries directed to UMWM in the form of e-mails and 250 telephone inquiries.

Meetings with an expert

The National Energy Conservation Agency held five events in November as part of its online “Meet the Expert” training, in which Eco-managers participated:

2 November – Analysis of carbon footprint in local governments,

9 November – Can local governments win against smog?

16 November – Wealth conflicts in the area of street lighting infrastructure and methodology for calculating electricity savings for Cities and Municipalities,

23 November – Exchange of City Technologies – a platform for digital development,

30 November – Challenges for polish cities in the field of de-concreting and creating green areas.

Eco-managers in Małopolska improve their qualifications!

On 4 November the third edition of postgraduate studies in air protection and energetics was inaugurated at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. More than 30 workers from 28 municipalities in Małopolska began their studies. The new edition of these highly popular studies is an answer for the constant need to build knowledge in the field of ari protection. Earlier editions have enabled 116 students to be educated.

Poland’s Way to Clean Air

On 9 November a meeting of the steering commitee of the project „Poland’s Way to Clean Air” was held. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Competence Centre.

Meeting on energy conservation

On 14 November, representatives of the Competence Centre attended a training session on local energy saving measures in EU municipalities. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange experiences and practices of EU municipalities in the field of energy conservation and preparation of local governments for energy emergencies.

Educational materials on air protection

Eco-managers in municipalities:

  • distributed 20,204 flyers and brochures and 210 posters,
  • prepared and distributed 1,341 other educational and promotional materials (promotional materials, leaflets related to the Clean Air Programme, board games and school materials for children).

Meetings & Events

Eco-managers organized meetings and events:

  • 6 competitions for children and youth with 494 participants,
  • 19 school and kindergarten meetings attended by 593 people,
  • 19 meetings with residents attended by 566 people,
  • 43 meetings with local leaders, totaling 296 people.
  • 10 other air protection events with 1,413 attendees.

Use of media

Eco-managers in municipalities prepared:

  • 16 articles in the press,
  • 122 articles and posts online and in social media,
  • 39 times other media were used

and participated in media releases related to the project:

  • 40 radio or TV broadcasts.

E.3. Networking with other projects

  • On 4 November the third edition of postgraduate studies in air protection and energetics was inaugurated. Over 30 workers from 28 municipalities in Małopolska began their studies.
  • On 22 November a workshop meeting was held concerning the mock-ups of the financial module being designed within the ZONE system.
